Florida Lawmakers Honor Fallen Good Samaritan

A veteran who was killed back in 2014 as he walked to the VA clinic in Tamarac is getting an honor Monday afternoon.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will join representatives from the Miami VA Healthcare system, Broward Veterans Coalition and Broward County Transit as they unveil a plaque in memory of Good Samaritan Willie Span in the lobby of the William Bill Kling VA Outpatient Clinic in Sunrise. The plaque will be unveiled at 3 p.m.

Span, a veteran, was hit and killed by a car while walking to volunteer at a veterans program in Miami-Dade.

Since Span's death, a crosswalk was planned to be installed across Commercial Boulevard but it never came to fruition. Instead, Broward County Transit now offers all veterans reduced fare for rides to the facility.
