Third Trial For Dalia Dippolito Begins Today

After four days of jury selection, the third trial of Dalia Dippolito opens today.

The Boynton Beach woman was originally convicted in 2011 of hiring an undercover cop posing as a hit man to kill her newlywed husband but the decision was later overturned on appeal before the second trial resulted in a split jury late last year.

Dippolito's now ex-husband Michael is expected to be called as a witness for the state. Prosecutors did not call him to the stand in the second trial, where the defense tried to turn the tables on the Boynton Beach Police, saying that cops staged a crime scene and other inappropriate actions in order to generate drama for the television show "Cops."

The judge has apparently barred Dippolito's defense team from mentioning the fact that she recently became a mother in an attempt to sway the six jurors, who were selected from a pool which saw dozens of others sent away because they knew details of the case and previous trials.
