Miami Tow Truck Business Owner Shot During Early Morning Robbery

A 55-year-old tow truck business owner is recovering after being shot during a robbery Monday morning, police say. 

The victim, identified as Silvio Alvarez, was opening his business, S.A.O Towing Services, Inc. at 6401 SW 33rd Street in Miami when he was confronted by a gunman who was waiting inside. 

The gunman allegedly demanded money and a gold chain from Alvarez before a struggle ensued. Authorities say Alvarez was shot in the arm before he complied with the gunman, who fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and a gold chain.

Alvarez as taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center to be treated for his gunshot wound. He later returned to the business, wearing his hospital gown.

The gunman is yet to be identified. Employees of the tow truck business say they do not know who would want to hurt Alvarez. 

Police continue to investigate the situation.
