At least one person is dead and more than 20 others are reported as injured after a car slammed into a crowd of pedestrians in Times Square just before 12 p.m. Thursday.
Fire officials say they got a call shortly before noon about an accident at 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue.
Richard Rojas, 26, who lives in the Bronx, was hunched over as a swarm of police officers escorted him into the back of a cop car following the wild crash.
Rojas, who has two prior arrests for DWI, was tested for alcohol and refused to make any statements, sources say. NYPD says the incident has no connection to terrorism.
Witness accounts said the sedan, allegedly driven by Rojas, was spotted speeding the wrong way down Seventh Avenue toward the busy tourist venue. Reports claim the suspect allegedly drove down the busy street the wrong way for at least three blocks.
Several victims have been taken to hospitals. At least three are believed to be in critical condition.
