Miami-Dade Employees Now Able To Donate Holiday Leave Time To Injured Officer

There is more help is on the way for a veteran Miami-Dade police officer who lost his legs in a motorcycle crash on I-75 May 7th.

Major Ricky Carter was rushed to the hospital in critical condition following the crash. Although he lost both legs, Carter will retain his arms, the life he came so close to losing and the ability to live independently, Miami-Dade police say.

GoFundMe and Police Officers Assistance Trust (POAT) Funds donated on the POAT page all will go to the Carter family, while 92 percent of the GoFundMe donations will, according to Miami-Dade police. 

The County Commission has now also approved a resolution allowing employees of Miami-Dade County to donate their accrued annual and holiday leave time, worth up to $50,000, to Major Ricky Carter.
