Bal Harbour Shops Up for Final Vote on Expansion Plan

The Bal Harbour Shops 400 million dollar expansion plan could get the green light at Tuesday's city council meeting.

The proposal won first approval in a 4-1 council vote on April 25th.  Bal Harbour Village Mayor, Gabriel Groisman says Tuesday's second reading will be the final vote by the council.

"We won't vote until the end of the meeting until we hear from all citizens, all parties that are interested," said Mayor Groisman.

Those opposed to the Shops expansion say the Bal Harbour Village is ignoring it's neighbors again.  The Bal Harbour Neighbors Alliance released this statement after the initial vote.

"We are disappointed that the Village has decided to move this development order to second reading despite the wishes of hundreds of Bal Harbour residents.  The Bal Harbour Shops' expansion will negatively affect our quality of life and bring many issues to our community.  The developer used a flawed transportation analysis, and they don't have any plans to mitigate the traffic impact of doubling the size of the Shops."

However, Mayor Groisman says they're listening.

"We've taken into account everybody's concerns and we've tried to work out the best situation possible for all parties involved," said Mayor Groisman.

The Bal Habour City Council meeting is Tuesday, May 16th, at 7 p.m. at the Sea View Hotel, 9909 Collins Avenue in Bal Harbour.
