NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour Makes a South Florida Stop

The NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour stopped at Miami's Opa Locka Executive Airport Friday.

The Hurricane Hunter planes on display as they prepare for the upcoming season.  Dr. Rick Knabb, National Hurricane Center Director says they're vital when it comes to forecasting hurricanes.

"When you hear these warnings and evacuation instructions remember that the brave men and women who flew into the hurricane collected data to help make that happen.  If they're willing to do that for you the least you can do is get ready for the hurricane way in advance so that you know what you're going to do," said Dr. Knabb.

He says this year new technology will allow the National Weather Service to issue storm surge watch and warnings.
