Miami sports fans will want to sit down for this news.
"Perfect Season" Dolphins legend Nick Buoniconti is not in good shape when it comes to his health.
The 76-year-old Pro Football Hall of Famer, who played for 14 seasons, made eight Pro Bowls, played three-consecutive Super Bowls and the NFL's only perfect season, told Sports Illustrated in an interview published Tuesday that he can barely use his left hand, has trouble with balance and sometimes can't use the bathroom alone.
“I feel lost,” Buoniconti told Sports Illustrated. “I feel like a child.”
The former linebacker told the magazine, quote, "At 55 I was very normal. I'm not normal anymore."
Following his NFL career, Buoniconti hosted Inside the NFL with former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson from 1980-2001. After his son Marc was left paralyzed while making a tackle in a game for The Citadel, he started the The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis in 1985.
Buoniconti said going public about his failing health is an effort to pressure the NFL into covering healthcare costs for retired players.
