Police Investigating Man Allegedly Beat For Being Gay

Miami Beach police detectives are looking into whether a man was beaten unconscious because he is gay.

The man allegedly walked into the police station saying that, while walking his dog on Friday afternoon, he was attacked by two men hurling gay slurs at him in South Beach.

Kenneth Wilcox was walking his dog on 14th Street and Meridian Avenue, when two men approached him. 

According to police reports, one of the men grabbed Wilcox from behind while the other repeatedly punched him in the face and body.

The 45-year-old says he then passed out and woke up three hours later. The following day he went to the hospital where doctors diagnosed him with a concussion, internal bleeding and fractured ribs.

The victim told police that the two men were black. One was 6’1” to 6’2”, about 160 pounds with a shaved head. The second man is about 5’9” and 160 pounds, also with a shaved head. Both were wearing jeans and t-shirts.
