Florida Senate Seat to Remain Empty Following Artiles' Resignation

A now-vacant South Florida Senate seat will stay that way for the rest of the legislative session, officials say.

South Florida State Senator Frank Artiles apologized then resigned last week after an uproar of controversy over a racial slur he made against Jacksonville Senator Audrey Gibson, who is African American.

Governor Rick Scott will set a date for a special election to fill the District 40 seat in the next few months, but for the time being, the seat will stay empty.
