Massive Barge Washes Ashore in South Florida

Coast Guard officials are working to remove a mysterious (and massive) barge that has washed ashore in Riviera Beach, just north of West Palm Beach.

The empty barge was being towed by a tugboat when it broke loose near the Lake Worth Inlet during a crew switch Thursday around 5 a.m.

No one was injured during the incident, and officials say there is also no worry of pollution. The barge beached on Singer Island on the 3800 block of North Ocean Drive.

The beach remained open to the public during the barge's removal.

It's unclear at this time where the barge was coming from or where it was headed. However, the vessel, named the Baymaster IV, is based out of the Port of Coeymans in upstate New York.
