Update: Police Charge Man Wanted For Deadly Dog Beating in Miami Beach

Update: 4/19/17 9:00 p.m.

A person of interest in the brutal beating of a small dog found in a Miami Beach parking garage surrenders Wednesday and now Miami Beach Police say he's under arrest.  Before Sigman Hernandez spoke to police, he told NBC 6 he found the dog in an alley, and took it for it's safety, but claims he didn't hurt the animal.

"I saw it on the floor, beaten to a pulp, it was crying.  I decided to help it, but unfortunately I was working," said Hernandez.

When asked why he didn't call 911...

"It was late at night, I didn't know any vets around.  It was hard to think at the moment," said Hernandez.

Hernandez is charged with 'Animal Cruelty with intent to injure and kill.

Police in Miami Beach are looking for the person who beat a small dog and left it to die in a parking garage.

City officials say a six-pound Yorkshire terrier was left abandoned and battered with broken bones April 7th at a West End parking garage near Alton Road and Dade Boulevard.  The dog died two days later at the Doral Center Animal Hospital.

Authorities said a man who drove a red Toyota Yaris could be the person who beat the dog and could face animal cruelty charges.

Anyone with information on the death of that dog or a perpetrator is asked to contact the Miami Beach Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
