Zika Detected in Backyard Asian Tiger Mosquito

As we prepare and plan for another Zika outbreak this summer, University of Florida researchers discover more mosquitoes can carry the virus.

The virus has shown up in the common, backyard Asian tiger mosquito and its eggs. The blood-suckers hatched from eggs gathered during the 2015 outbreak in Brazil.

The Asian tiger mosquito is found all over the world and has adapted to colder climates. Now the question is how well the virus lives in the bodies of this breed of mosquitoes.
