Study Shows PortMiami's Economic Impact Keeps Growing

PortMiami's economic impact on South Florida just keeps growing.

A new report released Monday by Martin Associates finds nearly 45,000 jobs are directly or indirectly tied to the facility. That marks more than an 800 percent jump since 2012.

Overall, it supports nearly 325,000 jobs and helps inject more than $40-billion into the economy.

Along with cargo, PortMiami also hosted a world record 5.1-million travelers last year.

Last summer, the county signed an agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises to build a new terminal at PortMiami that could accommodate the Miami-based cruise company’s mega ships.

The $247 million project is expected to create $500 million in annual economic impact.
