Search For Missing 8-Year-Old Swimmer Continues

An 8-year-old boy is missing after swimming in rough surf off the Atlantic Coast of Volusia County.

Volusia County Ocean Rescue Deputy says the search ended at sundown Sunday and resumed Monday morning.

The boy, Hezekiah Hill, was playing in the surf off New Smyrna Beach on Saturday afternoon when the strong currents pulled him out into deeper water. Reports say the boy's 11-year-old sister tried to rescue him, but was pulled under and had to be rescued.

Lifeguards were unable to find the Hezekiah during the girl's rescue.

The Hill family is from Orange County and stayed in a hotel in New Smyrna Saturday night thanks to the help of a good Samaritan. Sunday, their hotel was paid for by the Lifeguard Association.

Family members remain hopeful, and are waiting out the remainder of the search.
