POLICE: New Scam Threatens Victims' Family Members With Violence

The Pembroke Pines Police Department is warning the public of a recent phone scam that threatens victims' family members with violence if money isn't dished out.

The department posted on their Facebook page Wednesday that they have witnessed two incidents where victims received calls that a family member was involved in an accident, and that money was required from the victims to pay for the injuries of the suspect.

In both cases, the suspect threatened to torture or beat up the victim’s family member if they did not send them money.

Officials say they are actively investigating the scam and advise anyone with information regarding the calls or suspects to contact 911 to file a report.
