Heat Causes Students to Fall Ill During Fire Drill

Seven Lauderhill students fell ill due to heat Thursday. Two of those seven were transported to a local hospital.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue says students were outside Paul Turner Elementary School at 1500 NW 49th Ave. in Lauderdale Lakes for a mandatory Broward County mandated evacuation drill when several kids complained they weren't feeling well and couldn't handle the heat.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue says that all seven children are recovering from their heat-related symptoms, with the two transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Officials say negligence was not in play and water was available during the drill.
