Two Dead After Two-Plane Mid-Air Collision

Two pilots are dead following a mid-air collision of two airplanes in central Florida Saturday.

An air safety investigator says two single-engine planes had been flying in formation when they collided midair over Interstate 95.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the collision between the left a quarter-mile-long line of debris before hitting the ground in a wooded field in Edgewater.

A preliminary inspection didn't show any structural or electrical failure in either aircraft.

The wreckage was removed Sunday afternoon.

The names of the two victims have not yet been released. Gunther said the planes took off from Spruce Creek Airport in Port Orange and investigators are working to confirm their destination.
