That's what recently happened to a homeowner in Lakeland, Florida..
Jeanne Smith says she found the gator inches from her doorstep after her two dogs started barking. She says the alligator was staring at her dogs, who were standing on the other side of a glass door.
A trapper was called in and managed to remove the gator, which likely came from a nearby lake.
Mating season is approaching, according to alligator experts. During that time, it's not unusual for alligators to turn up in random places as they search for a mate.
