Gov. Scott Holds Zika Conference Ahead of Florida's Rainy Season

With Florida's rainy season right around the corner, Gov. Rick Scott held a Zika Round-table Monday morning with local officials and community leaders.

Scott was joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Jimenez, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, and community leaders to discuss resources and actionable measures that will be made ahead of the rainy season when mosquitoes are most prevalent in Florida.

As of last week, the total number of Zika cases in Florida for 2017 reached 29.

The protective and preventative measures are part of the "fight the bite" movement in Miami-Dade County. Fight the Bite focuses on measures that ban be taken both by residents and health/community officials to prevent mosquito-born illnesses.

One of the measures to keep in mind? Anything that will hold water for more than a few days can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes (see examples, above). Remember to drain sources and sinks daily.
