The MiamiDade County Youth Fair Opens Today

 WHAT: The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair is here for its 66th year of annual family friendly fun with new attractions and delicious eats. The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition is ranked as the largest fair in Florida and one of the top 27 largest fairs and expositions throughout North America. It attracts well over 612,000 guests of all ages every year. This is a family experience packed with adrenaline-pumping rides, fun games, mouth-watering food stands, live outdoor concerts, sensational shows, livestock/agricultural competitions and over 60,000 local artistic, academic and agricultural student exhibits. The Youth Fair & Exposition will be open for 21 days for the third year in a row.

WHO: Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching our community by promoting education and South Florida agriculture, while showcasing and rewarding youth achievement. We accomplish this by producing our first-class annual Youth Fair with quality entertainment, and providing facilities and resources for numerous other events throughout the year. The Youth Fair works closely with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department to bring fresh opportunities to children from pre-kindergarten to high school seniors. The result is year round programs in academics, the fine arts, agriculture, summer camps and sports.

 WHEN: Thursday, March 23 - Sunday, April 16, 2017, except for March 27 & 28, April 3 & 4.

WHERE: Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition, located at Tamiami Park, 10901 SW 24 Street (Coral Way). Miami, FL 33165, its home for the past 45 years.

DETAILS: Gates open to the general public at 3 p.m. March 23, 29, 30, 31, April 5, 6 & 7. Gates open at 12 noon all other operating days. Admission at the gate is $14 with free admission all day, every operating day for guests 5 years and younger and 65 years and better. Admission is also free all day for active duty and retired military personnel (with valid military ID) on Opening Day, March 23 and each Wednesday. The Pay-One-Price Unlimited Ride Card is $30 weekdays, $37 on weekends at the fairgrounds. The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition has a longstanding tradition of supporting agriculture and horticulture education. The newly revamped World of Agriculture is now The Barn and an entirely new area focusing on horticulture is called The Garden. Along with these two areas, fairgoers will be able to see more than 58,000 competitive exhibits from Miami-Dade County students.  Miami Dade County Youth Fair President and CEO Bob Lohenstein says, “Along with these two areas, fairgoers will be able to see more than 60,000 competitive exhibits from Miami-Dade County students featuring everything from roosters to robotics.”

New 2017 Exhibits

VEX IQ – A robotics platform, which transforms STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning for students. Participants snap together VEX IQ parts and build a simple, yet powerful robot to explore open-ended challenges, which are designed to enhance their STEAM skills. Teams will love driving their robots in 60-second Teamwork Challenge matches and testing their skills in two optional 60-second Robot and Programming Challenges. - more –

 DIGICON – The new divisions in the Digi-Con area in Arnold Hall are 3-D Modeling, Hack· Harassment, iCode Me and Coding with Scratch Challenges. Digi-Con is where technology becomes the most important tool that is used for transforming learning.  

LEGO® Construction Contest - Children will be able to show off their building talents and· use their imagination to create an original LEGO® construction creation using their own LEGO® bricks. The goal of this competition is to bring the concept of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) to life.  

Howdy’s Barnyard – A new interactive fun area where fairgoers can take part in dairy cow· milking demonstrations or learning the importance of bees in today’s agriculture operations. Guest can also learn about the fascinating world of goats.
