Brush Fire Chars 600 Acres in Southwest Miami Dade

A brush fire that broke out Monday afternoon in Southwest Miami Dade has charred over 600 acres and is under control. Scott Peterich of the Florida Forestry Service says the fire started on the east side of Card Sound Road and Southwest 384th street and later spread to the west side.

Peterich speculated that the likely cause of the fire was human, “There was no lightning in the area, however we don’t know if the fire was intentional or accidental. We also want to remind individuals not to park their cars on grass as the conditions are extremely dry and to put spark arrestors on recreational vehicles.”

Card Sound road experienced intermittent closures as well as US 1 as the winds carried the fire to the Southwest.
