A Miami-Dade commissioner is defending his decision to name a street after the late Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez.
Commissioner Bruno Barreiro says the decision was made in November, before yesterday's report that Fernandez was drunk-driving the speedboat that crashed and resulted in his death was released by Florida Wildlife Commission investigators.
The report also showed that Fernandez had cocaine in his system (in addition to alcohol) when he crashed his boat and killed himself and two passengers last year.
Barreiro says the street recognizes Fernandez for his accomplishments in life and "success as a ball player".
