Did Rachel Maddow Just Punk Us? LAME Trump Tax Hype

Rachel Maddow teased a HUGE reveal on her MSNBC show Tuesday night, tweeting earlier in the afternoon that she gained access to President Trump's concealed tax returns.

And the news got Twitter users (including me!) all-a-flutter about what she was going to spill.

In reality, though, we ended up all getting straight up Punk'd.

Maddow started off her show by detailing all of the reasons that Trump wasn't releasing his taxes, along with a few questionable real estate deals. It wasn't very long into her "breaking report" that we ALL started getting restless. Check it out here:

Eighteen minutes in, she said she'd get to the tax return next, and then cut to a commercial break. Well, this commercial break turned into some more babbling and a second commercial break... You get the picture. We all got impatient.

What Maddow basically had was two pages of Trump’s 2005 federal tax returns, showing that he paid $38 million in taxes in 2005 on $150 million of income.

Many, EVEN critics of the prez, complained that the revelation was unworthy of the uproar it had incited on social media. Others pointed out that Maddow's report confirmed that Trump paid more than former presidential candidate and progressive hero Bernie Sanders and former President Barack Obama.

Even the president's son, Donald Jr., joined in on the conversation:
