Police Searching for Loose, Venomous Snake

A cobra is allegedly on the loose in North Florida.

Police and wildlife officials are on the hunt for a tan and yellow monocle cobra that allegedly escaped from a home in Ocala.

A man allegedly shadowing the snake's owner in order to obtain a license to handle poisonous or venomous reptiles and snakes was at the home Monday when the snake escaped.

Authorities say he opened the cover of the cage and the snake jumped at him and then slid away. The man called the owner who rushed home from work. When they couldn't find the snake in the concealed room, they called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Neighbors were notified overnight about the missing snake.

Wildlife officials say the apprentice shouldn't have been left alone with the serpent in the room.
