WATCH: Miami Officer Accused of Stealing From Citizens During Traffic Stops

Update:  The Miami Police Department believes there may have been more victims.  If you have information you can call 305-835-2000.

Former cop, Jose R. Acosta, is accused of stealing from people he pulled over in the Wynwood and Allapattah areas.  At a news conference Monday, Deputy Chief Luis Cabrera said many of the victims were unaware of what was taking place.

"They legitimately believed it was a traffic stop and this officer took advantage of his position, his badge, his oath and the public confidence and that's something that's not acceptable.  We're going to make sure he's prosecuted to maximum extent of the law," said Deputy Chief Cabrera.

Acosta, who had been with the department since May 2016, was fired after his arrest, according to the Miami Police Department.
