WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida mail carrier is facing a potentially lengthy prison sentence after he was convicted of a fraud scheme using people's identities he stole from his route.
Federal court records show Yvenel Clotaire will be sentenced May 19 following his conviction by a jury last week on seven charges that carry a combined maximum sentence of 25 years behind bars.
A co-defendant is still awaiting trial.Trial evidence shows Clotaire stole the identities of up to 60 people on his West Palm Beach mail route.
He and others used the information to file fake state unemployment claims.Investigators say the theft involved about $90,000 in benefits between December 2013 and May 2014.
