Florida has the most motorcycle crash fatalities in the nation, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In 2015, there were more than 600 motorcycle crash-related deaths and about nine injury-related crashes in the state. Those fatality number rose 30 percent between 2014 and 2015.
Miami-Dade clocks in as the county with the most motorcycle crash fatalities at 67 deaths. Also in the top include:
- Hillsborough - 48 deaths
- Broward - 42 deaths
- Palm Beach - 34 deaths
- Pinellas - 27 Deaths
More than 80 percent of motorcyclists claim to wear a helmet while on their motorcycle. However, only 47 percent of Florida motorcyclists were actually seen wearing a helmet according to a report. Even more, 15 percent of motorcyclists do not have insurance.
The average cost for a motorcyclist involved in a traffic crash, who was then admitted to the hospital, is $83,676.
In conclusion, 72 percent of motorcyclists surveyed believe they should be required to wear a helmet when riding.
