Local Trump Travel Ban To Remain When President Visits Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The businesses at a small Florida airport that the Secret Service orders closed each time President Donald Trump visits his Mar-a-Lago resort won't get any concessions.

Congressional Representatives Lois Frankel and Ted Deutch said Monday that Secret Service officials told Lantana Airport tenants during a closed-door meeting they cannot allow aircraft to take off from the facility.

The airport is about 6 miles southwest of Mar-a-Lago, and the Secret Service says the small planes and helicopters based there could be a threat to the president's security.

The flight schools, a banner operation and other businesses there say they are losing thousands of dollars every time the president visits. Trump has visited Mar-a-Lago four of the seven weekends he has been president.

Other businesses, including restaurants and hotels which are affected by the road closures around the southern end of Palm Beach island where Mar-a-Lago is located, have also complained about lost revenue because of Trump's trips while others say they actually have more guests as a result of his visits.

Palm Beach County officials have requested the federal government reimburse the local money laid out to help with the extra security and logistics required for hosting the President but there has been no indication of any money coming back from Washington to cover those costs.

The Secret Service did not return a call from the Associated Press seeking comment.
