Broward County School Board declares Safe Zones

The School Board of Broward County became the first district in South Florida to pass a resolution that makes school grounds and education-related activities, such as sports tournaments or even proms, safe zones for immigrant students and their families.

The measure states that Immigration and Customs enforcement  (ICE) agents will not be able to collect information about immigration status in Broward County Schools or perform raids without a judge’s order or arrest warrant.

Broward County School Board Member Robin Bartleman, who proposed the resolution says, “ We want our students to come to school.  We want them to grow.  We want them to thrive and be happy and comfortable in our classrooms.”
