"A Day Without Women" to Take Place Wednesday

Organizers of January's Women's March are calling for women everywhere to take the day off from work Wednesday. Woman are also being encouraged not to spend money to call attention to the economic bias faced by women in the workforce.

"A Day Without Women" falls on the designated International Women's Day.

Organizers say they want to show solidarity following the protests held globally after Donald Trump's inauguration. They are calling on women to attend rallies and support local groups instead of doing work or shopping.

Rallies are being scheduled both nationally and locally, with meeting spaces designated in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, St. Petersburg and Tallahassee. In a local campaign for Miami, organizers state:

Women & Femmes are ready to lead the resistance and take over Florida! On March 8th, women, girls and femmes will rally and march in Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Tallahassee to send a strong message to our local elected officials, from our governor to our Congressional members and Mayors: Trump will not be an excuse to promote politics of hate, bigotry and discrimination against us and our families in the sunshine state.

By coming to this action we will all pledge to be actively engaged with these inter-sectional issues that don't just directly effect ourselves and our communities but stand in solidarity on issues that effect ALL women and femmes: no one is free until we are ALL free.

They also are encouraging women to wear red to signify love and sacrifice.
