Man Who Threw Daughter Off Bridge Ready for Trial

A Florida man accused of throwing his young daughter to her death off of a bridge near Tampa Bay is ready to stand trial.

A Pinellas County Judge issued a ruling Friday that 27-year-old Jon Jonchuck is ready and competent to stand trial.

Jonchuck was deemed ready to stand trial in January of 2015, and later deemed incompetent in February, 2015, the month after prosecutors say he dropped 5-year-old daughter, Phoebe Jonchuck into Tampa Bay.

Authorities are looking for the trial to begin in the fall. Jonchuck will remain at the state hospital in Gainesville until the case is closer to trial.

Pinellas-Pasco Chief Assistant State Attorney Brian Bartlett says they're concerned Jonchuck will become incompetent again if he's not forced to take his medication.

The state is seeking the death penalty.
