STUDY: Nearly 50% Of South Floridians Struggle To Make Ends Meet

The ALICE Report, an acronym for Asset Limit Income Constrained Employed reveals about half of the families living in Broward and Miami-Dade counties are struggling to make ends meet on their own.

ALICE takes a look a people that are above the federal poverty level, but below what it takes to survive.  Statewide Alice Director, Lars Gilberts, says the goal of gathering the data is to help people.

"For example, I don't know if people know that there is free tax preparation available.  So for families that make less than 64,000 they can save the money they would have paid for tax return and get their money back," said Gilberts.

He says you can dial 2-1-1 for Broward and 3-1-1 for Miami Dade to find resources to help with families.
