Progress is being made in testing a backlog of rape kits, but there are still many more to go.
The state is spending millions of dollars to test several thousand DNA samples contained in the kits thanks to funding allocated by legislators in Tallahassee last year, after it was revealed some samples had been sitting on shelves for years without being processed.
Legislators also passed a law last year requiring new sexual assault cases be tested within 120 days.
