Marlins Shortstop Testifying In Smuggling Case

Instead of working out with his Miami Marlins teammates today at spring training in Jupiter, shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria is in a Miami federal courtroom.

It's his second day on the witness stand testifying in the smuggling trial of a sports agent.

Bartolo Hernandez and trainer Julio Estrada are accused of orchestrating a ring that would smuggle Cuban baseball players into the United States.

They're both charged with alien smuggling and conspiracy.

Hechavarria left Cuba in 2010.He signed with the Toronto Blue Jays and has been with the Fish since 2012.

He agreed to participate in the investigation as long as he didn't face charges.
