Broward Commission Talking Pot Regulations

Broward County commissioners will be talking about medical marijuana this morning. They're set to discuss zoning regulations for businesses that would grow, process and dispense the pot.

Amendment 2, which voters approved last November, allows local governments to regulate the number, location, and other permitting requirements of medical marijuana dispensing facilities.

It's believed commissioners will set a public hearing for March 14th to discuss a proposed ordinance.

That ordinance states dispensaries and facilities that grow and process medical marijuana could open in industrial, commercial and general manufacturing zones only and be at least 1200 feet from a place of worship, child care center or school.  Its owners and managers must submit to fingerprinting and pass a level two background screening.  The ordinance also includes a provision requiring a proposed dispensary have a medical director who is a physician.  He/she will supervise the activities of the Medical Marijuana Dispensing Organization.
