Remains Found In Big Pine Key May Be Missing Man

Monroe County Sheriff's Office detectives believe a missing person case dating back to 2014 may be solved.

They say the human remains were spotted by a Mosquito Control employee as he searched for standing water in some woods in Big Pine Key.

Deputies say they found a man's wallet nearby and what appeared to be an old homeless campsite.

Inside the wallet was the ID of a man who was reported missing in July of 2014.

His friend said the man was homeless and diabetic and was having trouble getting his medication.

The bones have been taken to the Medical Examiner's office to make a positive identification.
