A veteran Sarasota County Sheriff's Office deputy is accused using his badge to befriend an elderly woman, steal more than $65,000 from her and then try to kill her.
Three days after Frankie Bybee was put on administrative leave for allegedly writing those bogus checks, Sheriff Tom Knight says the 46-year-old went to her home.
"Attempted to force her to take prescription medication and left turn turtle garage door open the car running in order to fill her home of carbon monoxide for the purposes of killing her and making the incident appear to be a suicide," said Sheriff Knight.
Bybee is being held without bond on attempted murder and grand theft charges.
