Additional Spring Break Safety Measures In Place On Miami Beach

Miami Beach's first real spring break test is here.

Today through Sunday and again next Thursday through Sunday are expected to be the peak weekends attracting the largest crowds, leading Miami Beach officials to add additional safety measures.

Police Chief Wayne Jones says those measures include, "DUI checkpoints, LPRs (license plate readers), a lot of police officers patrolling."

Local, state and federal authorities are teaming up to increase patrols.

Parking garages and surface lots on South Beach are closed to all visitors, other garages on the fringes are $100.

Sidewalk seating on Ocean Drive are closed.

Entry to the sand off Ocean Drive closes at 6:00 p.m. with the beach cleared at 10:00 p.m.

Other measures in effect all month long include non-resident towing rates of more than $500, plus booze, cooler and loud music bans.
