Pembroke Pines, FL - A Pembroke Pines man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a repair worker and his mother with a machete, leaving both injured.
According to Pembroke Pines Police, 38-year-old Darrell Dean Roberts, is facing two counts of attempted homicide following the violent incident that took place Monday in the Encantada neighborhood near Southwest 190th Avenue and 15th Street.
During a court hearing on Tuesday, a judge ordered Roberts to remain in custody without bond.
Investigators say the attack unfolded while a repairman was performing maintenance at Roberts’ home.
According to police, Roberts’ mother had asked him to assist the worker, but instead, he allegedly followed the repairman outside, armed himself with a machete, and began attacking.
"As the mother tried to intervene, she was also injured," said Detective Yalile Nader of the Pembroke Pines Police Department.
Footage captured a man, believed to be the repair worker, standing outside the home with his arm wrapped in bandages.
Authorities confirmed that the repairman is expected to recover, while Roberts’ mother remains in critical condition.
Roberts was taken into custody shortly after the attack.
Officials have not released further details on a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
