Miami, FL - A Miami resident faces multiple charges after allegedly committing two store burglaries and subsequently cashing in stolen lottery tickets.
According to police reports, 49-year-old Yoamil Napoles was arrested on Tuesday and charged with burglary, grand theft, criminal mischief, and dealing in stolen property.
As per Miami-Dade County jail records, the first robbery occurred on January 11th, between 4 and 5 a.m., at Jimmy's Discount Store located at 4589 Northwest 7th Street.
Napoles and an unidentified accomplice allegedly used a prying tool to break into the adjacent Estrella Insurance office and then breached the sheetrock wall separating it from Jimmy's Discount Store.
Once inside, they reportedly stole cigarette cartons, watches, rolls of lottery scratch-off tickets, and the cash register, totaling approximately $7,000 in stolen items.
Surveillance footage captured one suspect loading items into a bag and removing the cash register.
A rear camera also recorded Napoles and the accomplice wearing gloves and hoodies to conceal their identities.
On January 21st, investigators obtained a list of stores where the stolen lottery tickets were redeemed.
Surveillance footage from a Kwik Stop on Northwest 17th Street allegedly showed Napoles, dressed similarly to the burglary suspect, scanning and cashing the stolen tickets.
While investigating the first burglary, a second incident occurred on January 25 at a Kwik Stop located at 764 Northwest 29th Street.
In this case, Napoles allegedly entered through the store's roof and stole $450 in cash, approximately $2,000 worth of cigarettes, and around $2,000 worth of lottery tickets.
He was again seen cashing the stolen tickets, according to the report.
Authorities later apprehended Napoles, who allegedly provided a full confession during an interview with detectives.
His girlfriend also identified him in photos from the burglaries.
During his initial court appearance on Wednesday, a Miami Police detective testified that Napoles is believed to be part of a group suspected in several similar cases.
The detective noted that the January 25 burglary caused about $2,000 in damage to the store's roof, with damage estimates pending for the other incident.
Napoles is currently being held without bond.
