NTSB Out With Report On Orlando Holiday Drone Crash

ORLANDO -- A preliminary report is out on the drone accident in Orlando last month that injured a seven year old boy.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the launch control file had not been sent to the drones before liftoff December 21st, causing the show to be off kilter and too close to the audience. It also expanded the geofence margin from one to five meters, putting spectators in danger once the drones began colliding. One of those drones struck the seven year old causing serious injuries.

Drone operator Sky Elements is proposing more prep time, an on call system to verify procedures, and more training.

The report didn't offer recommendations from the NTSB. A full report on the crash could take a year or more.
