More than 200 condo associations in Palm Beach County could soon face fines if they miss a deadline.

All three-story or higher condo buildings have until December 31st to register with the state and submit required reports to comply with the new milestone inspection law.

There are over 550 of those in unincorporated areas of the county alone and Building Division Director Doug Wise tells CBS 12 News that 219 of them have still not complied.

"It's concerning why there are so many missing and we're gonna have to take them all to code enforcement. The last thing I want them to do is spend money on fines."

He says he wants them instead to spend their money on inspecting their buildings.

The law was passed after the deadly Surfside condo collapse in Miami-Dade back in 2021.

It calls for buildings to have a milestone inspection 30 years after occupancy and then every 10 years after that. Buildings on the coastline must have their initial inspections after 25 years.

The new rules are aimed at keeping families safe, but it's raising association fees considerably.
