A Palm Beach County man is warning about an FPL scam targeting the elderly.

"I'm so embarrassed how they took advantage of me."

The man only known as "Lamar G" tells CBS 12 News that he got a call from someone claiming to be with the electric company and telling him it was urgent that he pay to keep his power from being turned off and they talked him into going to CVS twice to pay about $600 through "e-cash."

"He said, "well there's an urgency that your service will be disconnected." So he put me in a state of emergency and put me in a state of panic."

He says the caller was "very aggressive."

Better Business Bureau spokesperson Cynthia Lavin says Lamarr is likely out of luck.

"Unfortunately once someone pays via e-cash or even using some peer-to-peer apps or using gift cards, you're never going to see that money again."

Lavin warns to be wary when someone calls you asking for money and making it sound urgent. That's the tell-tale sign of a scam.

She also says the more you answer your phone to scam calls, the more calls you'll get.
