(Miami, FL) - Governor Ron DeSantis is calling for a special session on the condo crisis before the end of the year.

Board certified Miami condo attorney Eric Glazer, who advocated for the safety inspections and mandatory reserves says, "it's not going to happen."

Glazer says the bill is due, repairs must be made, and it's time for condo owners to pay up. He says he supports the state providing financial help to low-income condo owners.

DeSantis would like lawmakers to help provide financially strapped residents with zero percent loans to help pay huge assessments.

Glazer says after the Surfside collapse, lawmakers will stick to their guns. Adding the legislature passed the new safety repair laws unanimously 110-to-0.

DeSantis says many condo owners will be displaced unless lawmakers roll back deadlines for inspections and repairs due at the end of the year and find a way to help them pay the exorbitant bills.

Glazer says Senate President Kathleen Passidomo and the Speaker of the House Danny Perez both said they have no appetite for a special session.

Senate President Kathleen Passidomo sent a memo to senators last month where she said she has no intention to convene a special session. Her memo said, “no law is perfect” and “sometimes issues arise during implementation.”
