The West Palm Beach Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its officers.
29-year old Officer Jeremy Boykins fell ill on Monday during Emergency Field Force tryouts and was rushed to Good Samaritan Medical Center.
The two-year veteran underwent surgery Monday night and the department says he died yesterday morning after medical complications.
Police Chief Frank Adderley calls Boykins not only a dedicated officer, but also a "beloved friend and colleague to many" of those in the agency.
A number of patrol cars and officers were outside the hospital for a final farewell to honor Boykins.
The officer was hired in May of 2022 and started with road patrol then moved to the bike patrol unit. He received three commendations and a certificate of appreciation. That was a lifesaving award for saving a gunshot victim in December of that year.
Officer Boykins leaves behind a wife and two children.
