FWC Pilot Saves Swimmers From Impaired Boater

A helicopter pilot preventing tragedy for a group of swimmers in the Florida Keys.

The incident last week, as hundreds of swimmers competed in a charity swim to benefit the Alligator Reef Lighthouse.

A boat driven by a man under the influence was head right for the swimmers.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission helicopter was supporting the swimmers by when pilot Chris Simons lowered the chopper, hovering about 20 feet in front of the boat.

Other boats then moved in to help stop the vessel.

55yo Thomas Reichert is set to be arraigned September 24th.
