Florida Republicans React to Reports of Gunshots at Trump Rally

TALLAHASSEE -- Leading Floridians are reacting to word of shots being fired at a rally for former President and Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump in Butler, Pa. Saturday.

Multiple reports say a suspect is dead after firing shots at the former president, along with at least one other person attending the rally. The incident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Eastern time. Mr. Trump was surrounded by Secret Service agents and taken from the scene. The Secret Service issued a statement soon after the incident that the 45th president is safe and getting checked out at a medical facility.

Florida U.S. Senator Rick Scott describes the event as "clearly an assassination attempt," while fellow Senator Marco Rubio declares that "God is protecting" the former president.

Governor Ron DeSantis says he and Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis are "praying for (Trump)."
