Alberto Drenches Texas With Heavy Rain And Storm Surge

(Miami, FL) -- Tropical Storm Alberto has made landfall in Mexico and at least 3 people are reported dead.

The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season has been dumping heavy rain on the Texas Coast, and made landfall early Thursday on the northeast coast of Mexico, where at least three people have already been killed by Alberto.

Maximum sustained winds from the storm are up to 50 miles per hour, and up to three feet of storm surge is possible along the Texas coast from Mexico to Louisiana.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is forecasting that the storm will rapidly weaken over land as it moves west and dissipate later today and into tonight.
