Flooding could again be a problem today in South Florida. The National Weather Service has a Flood Warning in effect until 8:00 a.m. for Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Heavy rain fell yesterday and caused flooding throughout the area.
The NWS reports up to 18 inches of rain have fallen since Tuesday. Many roads were closed yesterday, and the NWS says it'll take time for all the water to work through the local drainage system.
Also, the NWS has a Flood Watch in effect through tomorrow night for Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties and Southwest Florida. Another four to eight inches of rain are expected.
Dozens of drivers are safe and dry thanks to first responders in Broward County. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue reported 50 calls yesterday from people whose cars were stuck in floodwaters. A Fire Rescue official tells the Miami Herald there were no injuries. At one point yesterday, FHP closed all southbound lanes on I-95 at Griffin Road near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
